Baby Blossom's Extraordinary Day

I met up at Hollywood Forever Cemetery with Baby Blossom, the up and coming cool girl rock band that feels like a throwback to iconic girl rockers of the 90s a la Kathleen Hanna and Kim Gordon. Yet, Baby Blossom is much more than an homage to bygone eras and is crafting an excellent garage rock sound all their own- an antidote to the polished muzak of today's entertainment machine of industry plants and style over substance.

In this issue we are proud to introduce Baby Blossom and their first single "Wendy," we look forward to seeing what these "hard candy Aphrodites" do next. Your move, Baby Blossom.

Currently listening: I am currently listening to some of my friend’s bands! I’ve been listening to a lot of The World Record, Boy/Girl, Semi Trucks (as well as his solo music as Sepe), Richard Hamilton (Ricky Hamilton) and also Lavender Jets. This is going to sound biased because I play bass in the band, but I love Baby Blossoms writing style. Taylor has such a great writing style that’s really creative. She really nails down the theme of a story in a 2-3 minute song. It's honestly inspiring, the same thing with Val, who also writes for baby blossom. Me and Noelle just create the melody from their writing. It’s really cool, I’ve never seen a band write songs like that. Another band I’ve also been listening to is my best friend's band (Pillow Fight) which again, I feel a little biased for saying that because I play bass in her band as well, she also plays in my band (The Freebies). However, she (Alice) truly makes incredible indie pop music. A band that I’m always listening to, especially recently, has been The Only Ones. Peter Perrett has this amazingly, distinct, heart-felt, whiney voice that I really love. I’ve been currently listening to The Gizmos, Parkinson D.C, The Jacks, The Maybellines, Icky Boyfriends, Idle Race, Jenny Mae, Robert Pollard, Beck, Colleen Green, The Tunes, Moon Martin, Denim, Freakpuss, The DB’s, The Keys, The Magnetic Fields, Heavenly, The RPM’s and Teenage Fanclub. I’ve also been listening to a lot of The Beatles, mostly their Anthology albums I-III, and the band the Sunday Monsters as well. Their songs and song titles are amazing. I think I just love the dirty and home sounding type of recordings, like The Moldy Peaches for example. [...] As I am writing this all out I realize I’m writing too much. To be honest, I don’t own a tv so I listen to music the entire day, like right now. Anyways, music rulezzz! Go listen to music! It helps your feelings. It helps your heart. (I think…)



Currently Watching: Oh man, so as I mentioned, I don’t own a T.V and I don’t have any streaming subscriptions so I haven’t had the opportunity to watch any new t.v shows or movies, however I do watch YouTube videos… like a lot. I watch a lot of old band music videos. They’re always the best, they’re so zany, loose and fun. It’s truly so inspiring. All of it is. The past gives me so much creative drive, it’s some of the coolest stuff I’ve seen. Some of my favorite music videos are from the band Pointed Sticks with their song “Lies”, the band The Modulators and their song “Spin Me Around”, the band Moldy Peaches and their song “Jorge Regula”, and the band The Dazzlers and their song “Phonies” just to name a few. There’s so many out there, this is just what I’ve currently been watching on YouTube. I really do want to get into watching more movies though. The last movie I saw was a movie called Good Morning by Yasujirō Ozu. It’s one of my favorite movies ever.


Currently Reading: I am always reading band information. I read the Wikipedia pages about bands and how they formed and things like that. I should honestly go look for books about certain bands because it’d probably have more information, but Wikipedia seems alright for now I suppose. I also like reading bands bio on Spotify, especially when it shares a bands history and the story behind its formation. It’s also so cool when it links you to other bands or a band members solo stuff. That’s usually how I find new music to listen to. I don’t know if I should be admitting all this though, it kind of sounds lame now that I’m thinking about it… ha. I would like to read more books though. I always want to get into the niche stuff, I just never know where to start, or honestly even what I’d be invested in. I also want to get into reading poetry. It all connects with one another. Books are just realllllly long songs. Songs are like short stories, or something like that.

Any Interesting dreams lately: No :( I wish. I want to be a night dreamer so badly. I have insomnia. I daydream a lot, if that counts, but nothing that I think is really interesting.

Favorite Weather: I love the weather after it rains. When there’s a few grey clouds mixed with the big white ones, the sky is really blue, the grass and flowers are brighter in color and the sun feels slightly warmer but it’s still kind of hazy. I love that. It also just smells so good after it rains.

Favorite Food: 4evr in my heart French fries and Diet Pepsiii! I don’t know why, I just love that combination. I am not a picky eater though. I love a lot of food.

Likes: Music, my mom’s daily phone calls, the ocean, trees, sunrises, the moon, mixed media and I love my friends sooo much. They’re perfect people to me and they really all have good hearts. I also like creating things. Anything. Photography, videography, styling, modeling, singing, playing some sort of instrument (any instrument) I love learning. I also like the funky stuff. I don’t know if that makes sense…I guess what I mean is I like eccentric things. I also like when people are fully themselves and not afraid of judgement. It’s the coolest thing to me.

Dislikes: I  don’t like mean people, I don’t really like strict rules (I do listen to rules, but when there’s continuously no room for creative growth I end up resenting the project) I also don’t really like serious people.
