Bluebird
by Juliette Sandoval

Under arches and high up in celestial rays
everywhere, birdsong and rain in the air
and the bluest of loves
rising like smoke from the afternoon ether

“There is a bluebird in my heart”
He tells me, its barely midsummer

A simple call-and-response
Between fated arrows and heaven above

A dream of shared life that I found in your eyes
I could never count our fate as a loss…

A small belief
in the order of things
And shared imperfection
the peace of love,
yet overextended in stasis

I remember when the sun was burning
And when your voice was lost somewhere in the waves
Eloquence is shattered amidst broken springs
Yet becomes so easily overgrown with new life
